If they had a CCC/SD cloned backup, they probably wouldn't be posting.įor someone traveling with a laptop, again, a bootable cloned backup can be worth its weight in gold when difficulties are encountered on the road. I’ve used Super Duper a couple of times in the last few years, just because it is simple to use. While Macs can back up to a networked Time Machine destination, including a Time Capsule, all. I mostly rely on Time Machine and Chronosync now. Time Machine can only back up volumes formatted either as HFS+ or the newer APFS format. Maybe CCC wouldn’t make incremental backups at the time or something. Uses the same method (FSEvents) to determine what to back up in most cases. There was some reason that I chose Super Duper over CCC years ago, but I don’t remember what it was now. We see posts in this forum almost every day from folks in that situation. Makes the same snapshots on the volume being backed up, which persist for 24-hours before being automatically removed. Spurs are 2-for-11 from 3 and most of those shots have been of the super duper open. There's NOTHING comparable to a bootable, cloned backup when one is experiencing "a moment of extreme need", such as an "I can't boot!" experience. I consider either CCC or SD to be a SUPERIOR choice to Time Machine for backing up. If (during a backup) it encounters a corrupted file or files, CCC will "keep on going", trying to clone all the -good- files, then give you a report when its finished. The difference between cloning and using Time Machine Local backups through Time Machine, cloud-based backups, and clones all serve a great purpose to keep your data safe in case of an unfortunate even that renders your Mac useless (even temporarily). I use SuperDuper for cloning my boot drive and my data drive. CCC has "the edge" these days, because it can clone over the recovery partition as well.ĬCC has one other advantage in its favor: I cant speak for SuperDuper, but I can give an unqualified thumbs up for CCC.
